Programs

At the Karratha Family Centre we pride ourselves on the wonderful programs we provide for our community and aim to support families and children in connecting, growing, and feeling safe.
We offer termly school readiness programs, weekly stay & play playgroup sessions, after-school drop & go programs, and many more events and sessions throughout the year.

See below for more details on our regular programs.

School Readiness Program – Let’s Learn (3 to 4 year olds)

Karratha Family Centre – School Readiness Program is a fun, engaging, play-based learning program to support 3- to 4-year-olds with their transition to school.

Our School Readiness Program aims to prepare the children for a structured school setting (Kindergarten and beyond) and focuses on developing children’s physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills, in line with the Early Years Learning Framework. All days of the program have varying activities to support the children in developing their sense of independence, sense of creativity and wonder, and a sense of belonging.

Each day, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the program will follow a routine, which includes both indoor and outdoor play-based learning experiences, sensory play, exploratory free play activities, teacher-guided activities, as well as mat/group sessions which include songs, movement and stories and morning tea and lunchtime routines.

All children must be 3 to 4 years old and toilet-trained to attend our school readiness program. (We understand children have toileting accidents, and we will assist children with toileting when they have an accident, however, we do not have the capabilities to be regularly changing children. Multiple toileting accidents will require the child to be withdrawn from our program until they are toilet-trained.)

Children need to bring the following each day:

  •  A healthy packed lunch, no nuts and no eggs please.
  •  Water bottle, clearly labelled with your child’s name
  •  Hat, clearly labelled with your child’s name
  •  Footwear, which your child can easily put on and off themselves, labelled with their name.
  •  A bag, with spare clothes.

Cost: All sessions are $60.00 per session ( inclusive of GST) and enrolments are for 10 weeks per term. On enrolment, you will receive an invoice for the full 10 weeks of Term, which is payable two weeks before the commencement of each Term.

All enrolments are rolled over each Term, securing your child’s spot for the next Term, unless you advise that you need to withdraw your child from future terms.

PLAYGROUPS – LET’S PLAY

Karratha Family Centre facilitate Playgroups for families on Mondays and Fridays, from 9 am to 11 am. At playgroup, parents/carers can connect with each other and their children. At each playgroup, families can enjoy morning tea with their children, including coffee or tea for adults and fruit for children.

  • Babies to 5 yr olds, but older siblings are always welcome
  • $15 per family, payable on the day or in advance.

Afternoon Programs – Let’s Create (5 to 10 year olds)

What is our afternoon Construction program about?
The awesomeness of our afternoon Construction program and nature play is that we learn by doing, creating, experimenting, failing, thinking, recreating and maybe solving. At Karratha Family Centre, our children explore their ideas and hypotheses in an open-ended, hands-on way that engenders a deeper understanding of concepts with application to real-life scenarios in an outdoor environment.

What is our afternoon Arts and Crafts program about?
Children will experience a variety of engaging art/craft activities set up each week indoors and outdoors in nature. Children will have the opportunity to complete a guided activity with our facilitator or to engage in art and craft independently or in small groups using their own sense of creativity.

3-5pm

Fees are paid by the Term:
  • $25 per child;

Nature Club

In term 3 of 2024 we had the tremendous joy in implementing our NATURE CLUB program trial.
What a huge success this initiative was, and we can’t wait to bring it back to our centre next year in term 2 & 3!

With the support of Rio Tinto, Woodside, and FMG we were able to secure some brand-new resources to implement a trail Nature club program, allowing parents to either drop off their children for a fun independent nature-based learning session OR attend a parent stay & play playgroup where families bonded over nature play experiences and sensory fun.

School term Fridays

11:30am – 2pm

3-5 year olds (must be toilet trained)

$40 per session

Termly bookings required with occasional casual availability
